Principal Fonseca
Principal Fonseca has had his first full year here at UAM! In his first full year, Principal Fonseca has shown great passion and envisions a bright future for UAM. He is working on attendance improvement by:
- encouraging kids to come
- field trips
- family engagement
- school dinners
- extra support for test prepping
When asked if he’d call UAM a good school he says “UAM is actually a great school. The community accepts your personality, hobbies and more.” Principal Fonseca described it as an enjoyable experience to attend UAM and it’s a great school to prepare kids for the real world. He mentioned that “he loves seeing change at UAM in a positive way, it’s motivational and encouraging.” Additionally he expressed he personally loves the experience here; he spends most of his days here, his best friends are here, he feels connected with the staff members and students and is very emotionally involved with UAM.
Mr. McGowan (9th Grade Biology teacher)
Mr. McGowan is in his first year teaching at UAM. The environment so far for him “has been positive and the staff has been good to him and the kids have been very encouraging.” He described the environment as having great support and great location. One of the reasons for this, as he said, was “there are a lot of vegan restaurants around”. As he is Vegan, he was very happy about that. In his opinion he would recommend the school, as the “students are great and the staff has been supportive.” One interesting thing about him is he loves to have thorough conversations.
Emily (9th Grade)
Emily is a new student of UAM, she started off being scared of being in a new school environment but eventually she has started to grow in it. She described that the school is “starting to seem exciting and how there’s many open opportunities within the school.” Her favorite part of UAM is making the friendships she has now. When asked if she’d recommend the school, she said she would because of “the good environment and how fun it is. Her favorite class is living environment because she gets to learn with Ms. Reyes and “she’s a ball of sunshine.” She states the difference between middle school and highschool is how highschool is much more free and different rules are set. So far she loves the school and the friends she has made.
Mr. Hornedo (Gym Teacher)
Mr. Hornedo is officially starting his first full year working as the new gym teacher of UAM. He stated that the experience “has been good and has had a good time working with students and staff.” He said “the environment is good and the staff are welcoming and acceptable.” Mr. Hornedo’s favorite part of being a gym teacher is he “loves being able to communicate with his students because he gets to know the student community better.” When asked if he would recommend UAM to someone and why he stated he “would recommend UAM because of the inclusive community, the ability to be who you are freely, and many opportunities.”
These are only some of the new comers or those in their first years at UAM. These people speak very highly of UAM and are enjoying their experience here. As for Principal Fonseca, he has a lot of ideas for the future of UAM to help better the experience and community as he continues his duties as Principal.
